Scattershot
- A short-AU "gun" that (somehow) funnels a star's radiation into very tight and precisely-targetted beams. It chooses targets based on parameters entered into the scattershot; more precise parameters typically target fewer targets, so the gun can target people, structures, vehicle types, etc. that are as specific as one target or be set with very wide parameters to hit millions of targets. It (somehow) is very smart with the parameters, and is able to nearly instantly find all targets matching even esoteric parameters.
- More precise parameters take longer to set, so frantic attachs with it tend to kill more than slowly-calibrated ones.
- Sustaining fire on a very large number of targets results in weaker beams, but this mostly results simply in slower kills for unarmored targets. Armored targets, of course, are a very different story.
- The intensity of the beams can be adjusted (down) so that the gun could in fact just sustain a low-level beam of radation on a target that eventually kills them of cancer or something.
- The range depends on the star, but it is effective against most unarmored tragets out to about 3 - 5 AUs.
- Atmosphere can play a big role, too, so rock-bound targets can be a lot triackier than unbound ones.
- And, of course, planets themselves can be great cover. Unless the magnetic field can bend the beams or clouds reflect them, it can only hit rock-bound targets during the day.
The One Who Gets Away is armed with an active scattershot (along with some Ferrets, Bulldogs, and other robots). The Good "only" fried all rock-bound gear, and She was out running and hiding from things when they toasted the gear they sold the humans. She also has a shoulder-mounted γ-guns.
