Beaten by the Blattids. Some do still exist but---unlike the Raptors---were not enslaved by the Battids but instead pretty much exterminated. They do still exist, though, and survive in their less hospitable niches on Mistress rocks where they are rather content to lie in wait for those within easy reach of their uncaring grasp. Beaten, sure, but not to be monkeyed with.
They play a small role in the story (feh, like there'll ever be an actual story), but can make for great whatevers. Cut scenes, mercenaries / bounty hunters, politicians, whatever.
Still, largely a joke and "living example" of some of the fires the Blattid survived.
Relictids?
So, a race of widows. Maybe make them all female, a race that previously reproduced sexually but now can only reproduce asexually?
