From theory on Cambrian explosion
- bottom-up vs. top-down drivers of evolutionary diversity. Top-down is that predators and herbivores consume primary producers and free up nutrients that allow for a spurt in evolution. So, it's reasoned that we should hunt and have our domestic animals "free up nutrients"
- Also that stable trophic systems encourage diversification of species (studies of modern marine environments finds that even nutrient-poor systems can be diverse if they're stable)
- So, we shouldn't change our environmental policy--not now or ever. Create a human-dominant world we like, then let nature adapt to it.
